My desire to be a Realtor started out at 12 years old
My parents had always been renters. We lived at 1021 S. 14th for 12 years. With me being the youngest of five daughters, they couldn't ever seem to get ahead enough to buy a house. When I was around 10 years old, my mother got a job outside the home, and her money went to save up for a down payment on their first house.
The excitement wore off on me too. I had always had to share a bedroom with one of my sisters, and I couldn't wait for a house with my own bedroom.
Back when I was 12 years old, they use to publish a weekly newspaper called, "The Sun." In the classified ads, would be pictures of homes with an agents name and phone number. I would call up to ask the price and address, then ride my bicycle past the house to check out the neighborhood and see if I thought it was a house my parents should go look at. I couldn't wait for the newspaper to be delivered to see what new houses were in there. I wonder what those real estate agents thought about some young girl calling on their ads?
It so happened, my parents heard about a house for sale from a co-worker, and I can remember talking a friend into riding her bike with me to find this house at 735 Charleston. It was a pretty white bungalow with a three stall garage, something my father had never had. There was a beautiful garden and flowers along the side of the house, which I learned were four o'clocks. I raced home so excited! This was the house! And what a wonderful home it was. My parents made it their home for 35 years.
Perhaps that is how I got my desire to be a Realtor. I think it is so exciting to help people find a home. I enjoy my job, and look forward to your call. I hope it will be soon!
